Our team at MeaningfulWork is devastated by the news that Roe v. Wade has been overturned by the US Supreme Court. We stand with the women whose freedom of choice and access to health care is now under threat. It is easy to feel helpless and frustrated as a woman at this major setback we face in the fight for our rights. We want to offer a list of resources and nonprofits that support women’s right to choose what they want for their own bodies.

POS offers a confidential phone line to help and support women in BC who are facing an unintended or unplanned pregnancy. They provide short-term telephone counselling, and up-to-date information about services available in the community.

When a woman is making the difficult decision about an unplanned or medically complicated pregnancy, it can be very stressful for anyone around and close to her. This stress can sometimes make it difficult to be supportive and understanding of her situation. It is important to recognize that her decision is completely her own and that she should be able to make it free of judgement or coercion from others. Friends and family can be extremely helpful simply by listening to her and supporting her decision regardless of what it is.
If a woman in your life if having difficulty making a decision about a pregnancy, you may encourage her to contact agencies that provide unbiased pregnancy counselling such as:

A nationwide political prochoice group consisting of individuals across Canada working to represent all Canadian women and transgender people who support reproductive rights and justice.
Canada Helps is an all-in-one destination for donating and fundraising online. The linked page is Canada Helps’ collection of prochoice charities that are working to help women facing the difficult decision about their pregnancy.
Action Canada for Sexual Health & Rights
Action Canada for Sexual Health & Rights provides direct support, referrals, and information to the people who need it most, partner with groups and organizations on a range of campaigns using a collaborative, movement-building approach, and work with decision-makers to advance progressive policies on access to abortion, stigma-free healthcare, gender equality, LGBTQ rights, and inclusive sex-ed.
Regina Women’s Community Centre
The Regina Women’s Centre is a progressive, feminist, pro-choice organization dedicated to working toward a non-violent and equitable society by empowering individuals who experience various forms of violence and abuse.
Canadian Women’s Foundation is a general resource for gender equality and justice. They work towards ensing issues such as gender-based violence, the gender pay gap, women in poverty and more. More resources are also available on their website.
Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter
The longest standing rape crisis centre in Canada helps women escape from violent and sexual abuse from men. Their services include crisis line support, transitional housing, accompanying women to the police, and helping them find immediate relief when faced with a situation of violence.
