Our Statement

Our hearts are shattered by the recent tragedy at Lapu-Lapu Day Vancouver that claimed the lives of 11 community members and left several others with sustained injuries. We extend our most sincere sympathies, love, and solidarity to the victims, their families, and the Filipino community.

Many volunteers and organizations worked hard to bring the Lapu-Lapu Day festival come to life because of how important it is to create spaces to celebrate Filipino history, culture, and resilience. This kind of work is deeply valued by our AAPI-led organization and supporting it is integral to our mission. In the wake of unimaginable loss, we also recognize the resilience and compassion of the Filipino community. In such a short amount of time, we’ve seen how quickly individuals and organizations have come together to offer care and support.

Lapu-Lapu Day Healing Fund

This has inspired us to start the Lapu-Lapu Day Healing Fund, intended to support local nonprofits and businesses to run programming that will help the community heal. We will be distributing 100% of proceeds to initiatives including healing circles, therapy sessions, and community events. Financial barriers often make these resources inaccessible to communities, so your support in donating and sharing the campaign is deeply appreciated. Donate here.
